CASSADY AND KEROUAC
2005
Photographic Editions: Archival Ink on Cotton Rag
Jack Kerouac: King of the Beats by Barry Miles, was the inspiration for my portrait 'Cassady and Kerouac'. The image is a collage, accomplished by isolating individual brush strokes from Jackson Pollack's 'Number 31', and then painstakingly laying them individually on top of the iconic photograph by Carolyn Cassady. My intention with 'Cassady and Kerouac', is to combine the frenetic painting style of Pollack's abstract expressionism with that of the fast paced writing style of Kerouac's work, (specifically that of the Cassady inspired 'On The Road'), in order to complete a well rounded portrait of a post war Beat Generation.
