GOLDA MEIR
AND THE BIRTH OF ISRAEL
2008
Photographic Editions: Archival Ink on Cotton Rag
'My Life' the autobiography by Golda Meir was the inspiration for 'Golda Meir and the Birth of Israel'. In it, I try and equate the life of Golda Meir, with the birth of a land that was once dry and barren and is now green and fertile. As one of Israel's earliest and most integral settler's, Golda's 1969 democratic election as Prime Minister, will always remain a proud moment for the Jewish people as well as for women everywhere. The image is a combination of assemblage and collage: the dried, cracked ground being the assemblage, and the green fertile ground being the collage.
